In real estate, no two days are the same. Some days, you're closing a multimillion-dollar deal; other days, you're crawling through a basement wondering how you got there. Today's story is one for the books.
It started with a simple task: show a potential dream home to my client. Easy, right? Wrong. The lockbox for the key was nowhere to be found. So there I was, standing outside with my client, waiting for a callback from the listing agent and silently stressing out.
The Key in the Grass
As I’m pacing around, something catches my eye—a random key lying in the grass. Weird, right? I pick it up, hoping it’s the one. Spoiler: it wasn’t for the front door. But, in a twist of fate, it works on the back Bilco doors leading to the basement. At this point, I’m thinking, “This better be worth it.”
WTF Moments in Real Estate
Picture this: I’m crouching down, opening basement doors like a treasure hunter, while my client follows behind, amused and slightly skeptical. We descend into the basement. It’s dark, musty, and straight out of a horror movie. I’m already regretting my life choices, but hey, we’re here.
The stairs to the main floor look like they’ve been through the apocalypse. As the agent, it’s my duty to go first. Great. Did I mention I’m the clumsiest person alive? I take each step cautiously, holding my breath, expecting them to give way at any second. Somehow, I make it to the top, and we start exploring the house.
The House: A Beautiful Disaster
Let’s just say the house had “potential.” Walls peeling, questionable smells, and a kitchen that time forgot. I turn to my client, expecting them to agree when I say, “Let’s get out of here.” But no. My client, for reasons I still can’t comprehend, loves the place. They see charm where I see chaos.
Placing the Offer
Despite everything—keys in the grass, broken stairs, and a house that felt more “ghost story” than “dream home”—we placed an offer. Now, we wait to see if this adventure turns into a sold sign.
